Scott Brown / Vancouver Sun
Vancouver-born actress Mackenzie Davis will star opposite Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2.
The yet-to-be-named sequel to the 1982 science fiction classic is being helmed by Quebec director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario).
Legendary director Ridley Scott, who made the original, will get a producing and story writing credit (his first since 1965) this time around.
Davis, whose biggest role to date was in Scott’s 2015 blockbuster The Martian, joins a stellar cast that also includes Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy).
A pair of Vancouverites, Tim Gamble, CEO of Thunderbird Films, and Frank Giustra, founder of Lionsgate Films and a current director with Thunderbird, serve as executive producers on the Blade Runner sequel along with Bill Carraro.
A production schedule has not been released but the film is reportedly being shot in Hungary.
The movie is set to be released in October of 2017.
