5 reasons Freeform’s new series is your ‘Guilt’-y pleasure for the summer

General

Erin Jensen / USA Today

We highly suspect Guilt, a new hour-long series from Freeform, will soon take up space on your DVR.

The thriller that’s not light on suspense, premieres Monday and takes its murder mystery straight from the headlines.

Similar to Amanda Knox, American Grace Atwood (Daisy Head) discovers her roommate, Molly Ryan (Rebekah Wainwright) has been murdered while studying abroad. But instead of Perugia, this story takes place in London.

Like Knox, Grace also has a boyfriend that she met while studying, and both are questioned about Molly’s death. However, the resemblances to the murder of Meredith Kercher fade in and out as the series grabs viewers with plot twists of its own.

From watching the first couple of episodes, here’s why we think you’ll be hooked:

1. The acting is good

Let’s be real, sometimes you can spread the acting in these types of dramatic shows on a water cracker and pair it with a Merlot it’s so cheesy. But Head — who could easily be a long-lost Olsen sis — is totally believable as a student grieving the death of her roomie while also being suspected of her murder. She’s also perfected the bloodcurdling scream.

2. This show has so. Much. Suspense!

We’re talking actual OMG! What just happened? moments throughout an episode. There are so many twists and turns, you’ll want to toss around some gluten-free breadcrumbs to keep your bearings.

3. There is some serious eye candy

While the male casting could certainly be more diverse, Guilt does offer a few varieties of hotness.

Integral to solving a murder hot: Detective Sergeant Alex Bruno (Cristian Solimeno)

Trust us, it will be hard to refrain yourself from making handcuff jokes when Detective Bruno comes on the screen. From what we’ve seen, he actually cares about helping find Molly’s killer and not just pinning the crime on Grace. Let’s hear it for this sleuth with sensitivity.

Moody artist hot:Luc Pascal (Zachary Fall)

Luc might be a little murdery for your liking — we’re not sure yet. But he does make masterpieces with red paint that closely resembles the color of blood. So, that’s something.

Vengeful brother hot: Patrick Ryan (Kevin Ryan)

Patrick is Molly’s brother who feels like it’s his duty to avenge his sister’s death. He is extremely angry and violent, kind of like Chad bear from The Bachelorette, if he had purpose.

4. Sex sells this series as well

Half the fun of sex is talking about it watching it on TV. From secret sex clubs to a prince with an affinity for dominating his partners, this show will definitely fog up your screens.

5. The guy we’re calling Stan “The Man” Gutterie

Imagine if they gave Entourage’s fast-talking Ari Gold a law degree. Stan (Billy Zane) has one-liners and the gall to pee on a judge’s supper. The latter got him banned from practicing law in the U.S., if you were wondering.

Reserve that seat on your sofa when Guilt premieres Monday at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
