Edward James Olmos Returning for ‘Blade Runner 2049’

General

Harrison Ford isn’t the only Blade Runner making a return in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. Edward James Olmos has revealed that Gaff, Rick Deckard’s (Ford) Cityspeak-talking rival from the original movie, will also be back in the sequel.

Speaking to TheTrend, Olmos said that he “couldn’t talk about it, I couldn’t talk about it to anybody about it,” but that his character will be returning for the Ryan Gosling vehicle and that his role will be small but important to the overall storyline.

“Well, it’s not about Gaff, but it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back then,” the actor explained. “My role is like it was in the original [1982 film] — that time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a poignant little scene.”

This suggests that Gosling’s character might not just be looking for Ford’s Deckard, but for all of the former Blade Runners for some as-yet-unknown reason. Or is it that Gaff knows more about Deckard than he let on in the original movie? After all, fans are still wondering what his origami commentary actually meant, all these years later…

Blade Runner 2049 is set for an Oct. 6 release.
