Vancouver, BC (November 29, 2016) – Thunderbird announced today that they are teaming up with David Salzman to develop a premium television series based on the New York Times best-selling Decker-Lazarus mystery novels authored by internationally renowned Faye Kellerman.
The preliminary development will focus on The Ritual Bath, the inaugural book in the series and the first novel optioned by Thunderbird. The story, set in the world of Orthodox Judaism, centres on hard-nosed LAPD Detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus, a widow and mother of two who witnesses a brutal crime and becomes embroiled in solving it. People Magazine has referred to the pair as “hands down the most refreshing mystery couple around.”
“Good storytelling is so important in our business. With this project, we get to work with a phenomenal team on stories that people already love, what a great opportunity,” said Thunderbird President Tim Gamble.
“Bringing Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus to life on-screen will be a new and exciting adventure for me,” Kellerman said. David Salzman continued, “Faye is a world-class talent, I am thrilled to be working with her and Thunderbird to introduce her incredibly fresh characters and plotlines to an audience that transcends her enormous existing fan base.”
Emmy award-winning David Salzman whose wide-ranging credits include Dallas, Max Headroom, MADtv and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as well as event specials like the Academy Awards, is on board as an Executive Producer.
Faye Kellerman has more than 30 million books in print, and her work includes the New York Times best seller Justice, and Prayers for the Dead, which was listed as one of the best crime novels by the Los Angeles Times. She was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 by Strand Magazine. The Ritual Bath won Kellerman the prestigious Macavity Award for Best First Novel.
