SODA PICTURES PICKS UP DAVID LYNCH: THE ART LIFE FOR UK DISTRIBUTION

General

13 Sept, 2016: Jon Nguyen and Olivia Neergaard-Holm’s intimate portrait of David Lynch has found a UK home with Anglo-Canadian distributor Soda Pictures, after premiering at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Narrated by Lynch himself, the immersive documentary explores the formative years of his life, from his idyllic upbringing in small town America to the dark streets of Philadelphia, as the film recounts, in compelling detail, the events that helped shape one of cinema’s most enigmatic and revered directors. Infusing Lynch’s own art, music and films, while shining a light into his unique world, the documentary, slated for a substantial theatrical release in spring 2017, will offer audiences a greater understanding of the man and the artist. Before it’s UK theatrical release next year, the film will receive it’s UK premiere at this year’s BFI London Film Festival, as part of the Documentary Competition section.

The deal was negotiated between Edward Fletcher, Managing Director of Soda Pictures, and Film Constellation Ltd Founder and CEO, Fabien Westerhoff. “The film celebrates the creativity behind the cinema we all love, through the life of one of its most remarkable directors.” Says Fletcher.

“We’re hugely excited to be working on this wonderful documentary, and are looking forward to a significant theatrical release next spring; cinema audiences are in for a treat.”

In the USA, Film Constellation has licensed the film to Amazon and Janus Films for a spring 2017 theatrical release. In Europe, distribution rights were licensed to NFP in Germany, Potemkin Films in France, Vertigo in Spain, Wanted Cinema in Italy, Angel Films in Scandinavia, Midas Films in Portugal and Fabula in Turkey, while Canada, Australia and Japan are currently in negotiation, among other territories.
