British film director Ben Wheatley is in Vancouver, to give movie buffs a preview screening of his latest feature film High-Rise – plus an exclusive masterclass and Q&A.
A dystopic tale of city living, High-Rise stars Tom Hiddleston as Robert Laing, a young doctor who moves into a London skyscraper.
But it’s a high-rise with a twist: the super-rich enjoy decadence at the top, while the poor are forced to live at the bottom. As Laing is seduced by the insularity and glamour of his neighbours, chaos ensues – and the high-rise descends into anarchy.
The preview screening – several weeks ahead of the movie’s official Canadian release date of May 20 – is at 11 p.m. this Friday, April 15 at VIFF Vancity Theatre.
Wheatley, who also directed the brutal Kill List and black comedy Sightseers, will discuss the movie in the masterclass at VIFF at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Individual tickets to the screening or masterclass are $15, or buy both together for $25.
