The Calgary Underground Film Festival, which kicks off on Monday, will offer a week’s worth of wonderfully twisted, genre-defying fare for adventurous film buffs in Calgary.
High-Rise
What: Apparently, this is yet another film/TV show in which British actor Tom Hiddleston disrobes. There’s more than that to recommend it to film buffs, however. Hiddleston stars as a young doctor who moves into a high-tech skyscraper. The upper-class society that lives within eventually breaks down and the high-rise becomes the site of a violent class war. With cult director Ben Wheatley at the helm and based on novelist J.G. Ballard’s unsettling cautionary tale of the same name, this one fits nicely into the cinematic underground.
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
