THUNDERBIRD’S SODA PICTURES PRESENTS PHILIP RIDLEY’S THE REFLECTING SKIN

Thunderbird is pleased to be screening Philip Ridley’s 1990 British-Canadian horror film THE REFLECTING SKIN on February 26th in Toronto and Vancouver, in advance of the special edition Blu-ray/DVD release on March 15th.The film, which has been compared to Terence Malick’s Days of Heaven and Terry Gilliam’s Tideland, features Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence) in one of his first roles. THE REFLECTING SKIN quickly became a cult favorite after its premiere at Cannes, and was the recipient of awards at the Locarno International Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival.

Dave Alexander says THE REFLECTING SKIN “is the only work that explores the horrific implications of prairie gothic horror with such depth and flair for the surreal” (Filmmaker Magazine). The Blu-ray/DVD will be newly restored in a director-approved 2K high-definition transfer from original elements with bonus features including a full length commentary by writer/director Philip Ridley, new and exclusive interviews with Viggo Mortensen, two all-new retrospective documentaries, as well as Ridley’s short films Visiting Mr. Beak and The Universe Of Dermot Finn and much more. The re-release will be available in Canada on amazon.ca.


Synopsis:

As mysterious deaths plague a small prairie town, young Seth Dove (Jeremy Cooper) comes to believe that the pale, reclusive widow living next door (Lindsay Duncan) is a vampire. Seth’s worst nightmare comes true when his older brother Cameron (Viggo Mortensen) returns home from abroad and falls in love with the widow – will he be next? The truth is more shocking than Seth could imagine.
