Looks like it’s a done deal for Package Deal. The City original series has officially been renewed for a second season.
City broke the news via Twitter on Tuesday, explaining that Package Deal, which just aired its Season 1 finale next week, and reality series Meet the Family will live to see second seasons at the network.
“Rogers Media remains committed to delivering high-quality Canadian programming to its viewers, and the renewals of both Package Deal and Meet the Family are a testament to that,” Nataline Rodrigues, Rogers Media’s director of original programming, explained to TV Guide Canada in a statement.
“Both comedies bring something unique to City’s primetime schedule — whether it be through the multi-cam sitcom format of Package Deal or the more unorthodox comedy prank style of Meet the Family. These series are a perfect fit with the brand’s young, urban demographic and we are thrilled to once again be working with Canada’s top talent both on and off the screen to bring viewers brand-new seasons of both of these homegrown comedies to City’s fall lineup.”
Both Package Deal and Meet the Family joined City this past fall. Package Deal follows Danny (Randal Edwards), a lawyer caught between his troublesome brothers (Jay Malone and Harland Williams) and his girlfriend (Julia Voth). Meet the Family is a reality spin on Meet the Parents, with varying boyfriends coming home to meet their gal pal’s family only to find out they are actors and he’s being pranked.
This year has really has been a fruitful one for City’s original programming slate. The network is currently in the midst of prepping Season 2 of The Bachelor Canada, and just finished filming new episodes of Seed, the other scripted comedy they debuted in 2013. Seed received a renewal earlier last year, garnered several Canadian Screen Awards nominations, not to national critical acclaim and an order from American network The CW.
