Canada’s Thunderbird Films has started the cameras rolling on Some Assembly Required, the new kids series for YTV from Mr. Young showrunner Dan Signer and Howard Nemetz.

Kolton Stewart is playing the role of 14-year-old Jarvis Raines, whose house is nearly destroyed on Christmas morning by a defective toy, so he sues the company and ends up owning it.

The young man’s first act as CEO is to fire the existing staff and replace it with kids from his high school, each with a valuable skill.

Thunderbird is shooting 26 half hours of Some Assembly Required in Vancouver for a likely 2014 airdate on YTV.

The comedy’s ensemble cast includes Harrison Houde (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Sydney Scotia, Dylan Playfair and Travis Turner.

“After the international success of Mr. Young, we’re excited to be working with Dan Signer, Howard Nemetz and Thunderbird Films again,” said Jocelyn Hamilton VP of programming and original production at Corus Kids, in a statement Thursday.
