Thunderbird Entertainment’s animation studio will adapt Max Brallier’s popular book series for the small screen.

Vancouver, Canada-based Atomic Cartoons—the animation studio owned by Thunderbird Entertainment—is set to adapt author Max Brallier’s bestselling book series The Last Kids on Earth into an animated show.

After optioning the rights, Atomic has signed Brallier on to write and executive produce the series alongside Atomic’s Jennifer McCarron and Matthew Berkowitz. (McCarron was recently promoted to co-president and CEO of Atomic Cartoons, while Ivan Fecan was named interim CEO of Thunderbird Entertainment.)

Development has begun on the series, which will follow Jack Sullivan and a group of zombie-fighting middle schoolers who live in a treehouse filled with video games and candy. The news comes as the book series’ third installment, The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King, hits shelves today courtesy of Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
