ABC Pairs Shonda Rhimes’ ‘Still Star-Crossed’ With ‘Bachelorette,’ Sets Summer Schedule

But soft, what news through yonder email breaks? ABC has finally dated Shonda Rhimes’ spin on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Still Star-Crossed, which at point was considering a title change, is finally set to premiere Monday, May 29.

ABC is giving the new drama, Rhimes’ fourth current production at the network, the best lead-in it has. It will air after The Bachelorette, which will return the Monday prior, May 22 with its first after non-white lead in Texas attorney Rachel Lindsay.

Another buzzy scripted effort, Downward Dog, will get an in-season sampling after the May 17 Modern Familyfinale before it shifts  to Tuesdays the following week. The network has a pretty beefy summer slate. In addition to the slew of throw-back game shows that it’s been spinning — Celebrity Family Feud, The $100,000 Pyramid, Too Tell the Truth — there’s also a revival of The Gong Show set to air Thursdays after new competition Boy Band.

Family Feud host Steve Harvey, who has no shortage of TV gigs, gets a second vehicle on the network with Steve Harvey’s Funderdome. It enters the Sunday lineup on June 11.

But it’s not all alternative. Despite the reality-heavy roster, which also includes the Aug. 14 return of Bachelor in Paradise and the previously announced revival of Battle of the Network Stars (June 29), ABC has scripted efforts in its Dirty Dancing movie remake (May 24) and Korean drama adaptation Somewhere Between (July 24).
