Dennis Miller Joins Thunderbird Board as Director & Strategic Advisor

General

Vancouver/Los Angeles (May 10, 2016) – Thunderbird is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis Miller to its Board of Directors. Dennis will also serve as a strategic advisor to Thunderbird, where he will focus on business development, acquisitions and corporate finance for the fast growing Vancouver-based Production Company.

“I am thrilled to be reunited with Dennis. We first worked together in 1998 when he joined me at Lionsgate to launch our television division. His strategy and hires were the foundation that set the stage for the success that Lionsgate TV is today. We have remained close over the years and are both looking forward to building a major content player with our partners at Thunderbird,” says Thunderbird Director Frank Giustra.

Dennis has spent the past 25 years operating at the intersection of media and technology, with extensive experience in venture capital and media investment. Most recently, Dennis has invested in three successful SPACs–Global Eagle, Silver Eagle (now VDTH) and Double Eagle alongside two prominent media investors–Harry Sloan and Jeff Sagansky. Dennis serves on the Board of Directors of Radio One Inc. (ROIA), Nexstar (NXST), Double Eagle and Canaccord Genuity (CF). Previously, Dennis served as a General Partner at Spark Capital, an early stage investor in such notable companies as Twitter (TWTR), Oculus Rift (sold to Facebook), Tumblr (sold to Yahoo) and many more.

Before then, Dennis was Managing Director at Constellation Ventures, the venture arm of Bear Stearns where he led investments in TVONE (sold to Comcast), College Sports Network (sold to CBS), Widevine (sold to Google) , K12 (taken public: LRN) and Capital IQ (sold to McGraw-Hill). He also took an active role in the reorganization of TV Guide Network and its sale by Lionsgate to CBS.

He began as an entertainment and tax lawyer and served as Executive Vice President at Turner Network Television (TNT), Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment.

“The days of big studios, big staffs and big overhead are behind us — Frank created Lionsgate to fit market needs at the time and is now building Thunderbird to reflect today’s unique dynamics. As a successful investor in media and tech, I know I can be helpful to Frank and the various companies being assembled,” says Dennis Miller on joining the Thunderbird Group.

Ivan Fecan, Executive Chair of Thunderbird, continues, “Over the past two years, Thunderbird has grown exponentially. As we gear up for the next chapter, we are very excited to have Dennis, with his deep Hollywood relationships, invest in the company, join our board and advise us on strategic growth.”

Thunderbird is a rapidly growing Vancouver-based TV and film production company with offices in Los Angeles, Toronto and London. Thunderbird produces award winning programming for Canadian and international broadcasters and leading OTT services such as Netflix and Amazon. The Thunderbird group of companies includes Vancouver-based Reunion Pictures, Great Pacific Media and Atomic Cartoons, UK-based theatrical distributor Soda Pictures, and a joint venture with Lionsgate, Sea to Sky Entertainment, which is dedicated to creating content for the US and International market.
