Soda Pictures have acquired UK & Irish rights to four films out of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. These are Competition title from Norway and America, Joachim Trier’s LOUDER THAN BOMBS with Jesse Eisenberg, Gabriel Byrne and Isabelle Huppert; the highly acclaimed Icelandic drama and winner of Un Certain Regard, Grímur Hákonarson’s RAMS; Danish thriller and winner at Tribeca, Jeppe Rønde’s BRIDGEND which screened in the Market; and Magnus von Horn’s debut feature which played in Director’s Fortnight THE HERE AFTER from Sweden.

On the new acquisitions, Acquisitions Manager Frances Harvey says “These were all titles that we had been tracking for a long time, having first seen a presentation of THE HERE AFTER at the first edition of the Polish Days at New Horizons’ in 2012, whereas RAMS and BRIDGEND were both first seen as works in progress at Göteborg International Film Festival and we are delighted to be working again with Joachim Trier. I am thrilled that we will be introducing this wealth of Nordic talent to audiences in the UK and Ireland.

RAMS and BRIDGEND were two of the deals negotiated by Harvey with Jan Naszewski from New Europe Film Sales.

Soda Pictures Managing Director Edward Fletcher negotiated the other two deals. LOUDER THAN BOMBS with Tanja Meissner from Memento Films International and THE HERE AFTER with Susan Wendt from Trust Nordisk.

LOUDER THAN BOMBS is Joachim Trier’s highly anticipated follow up to Oslo, August 31st, also a previous Soda Pictures release. During the preparation of an exhibition celebrating the famous war photographer Laura Freed, her husband and sons are brought together for the first time since her death. But as a disturbing secret is revealed the three men are forced to confront their relationship and look at each other in a new light.

RAMS follows the story of two estranged brothers who farm sheep on neighboring land, left to them by their father. When an outbreak of Scrapie threatens to destroy their livelihood, the brothers must put differences aside and work together to save their flocks and the rare breed of sheep that has been in their family for generations.

Starring Hannah Murray, Josh O’Connor and Steven Waddington BRIDGEND is a stark English-language thriller based on true events. In a town haunted by suicides, a young girl falls dangerously in love with a teenager, while the town’s new policeman attempts to put an end to a mysterious chain of deaths.

THE HERE AFTER tells the story of a teenage boy’s release from prison and his subsequent reintegration into his small local community, where his crime is neither forgotten nor forgiven.

Release dates for all titles will be announced later this year.
