Soda Pictures pick up UK rights for “The Goob”

General

Soda Pictures has acquired THE GOOB, the debut feature from writer/ director Guy Myhill. Boasting a strong cast of British talent including Sean Harris (Prometheus), Sienna Guilleroy (Luther), Hannah Spearritt (Primeval) and newcomer Liam Walpole, THE GOOB is a fiery tale of family conflicts and boyhood, set against the backdrop of a scorching Norfolk summer.

Goob Taylor (Walpole) has spent each of his sixteen summers helping Mum (Guilleroy) run the transport cafe and harvest the surrounding pumpkin fields. When Mum shacks up with swarthy stock car driving supremo and ladies’ man Gene Womack (Harris), Goob becomes an unwelcome side thought. However Goob’s world turns when exotic pumpkin picker Eva arrives. Fuelled by her flirtatious comments, Goob dreams of better things.

The deal was negotiated between Soda Pictures’ MD Edward Fletcher and producers Mike Elliott and Lee Groombridge of EMU Films. Edward commented “we’re thrilled that we will be releasing THE GOOB in its home territory, Guy Myhill has brought a witty and engaging array of characters to the screen in this fantastic Fenland tale.”

THE GOOB received its World Premiere in August at the Venice International Film Festival. It is up for the Golden Hitchcock at the 25th Dinard British Film Festival and will feature in the First Feature Competition at the BFI London Film Festival in October. The UK and Irish release is scheduled for Spring/ Summer 2015.
